Capri is the main town of the island of the same name that rises from the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the coast of Sorrento in the Bay of Naples. What to see and do in Capri

Just a few attractions to enjoy and ways to while away your days on the island are:

  • The Blue Grotto:One of the most popular attractions in all of Italy, the sea cave is 25m wide and 60m wide. Trips into the cave are by rowing boat.

  • Il Faraglioni: Huge limestone rock formations sticking out of the ocean that can be reached on a boat tour or a swim from Da Luigi Beach Club.
  • Gardens of Augustus: The botanical gardens are a lovely place to relax and admire the views.
  • Capri Philosophical Park: Located at the end of the Migliera walking trail, the nature reserve contains tablets bearing quotes from Western philosophy.
  • Anacapri: The only other town on the island has the same flavour and atmosphere but uniquely has the cable car that goes up Mount Solano which has a height of 589 m.
  • Naples: Ferries run regularly to and from Naples and depending on how long your stay on the island, is more than worth a day trip or two. You can even climb Mount Vesuvius!
  • Sorrento: Another regular ferry service enables day trips to the hilltop seaside town with its splendid views of the Amalfi Coast and the Bay. You might also consider trips to Positano and Amalfi.

What to eat in Capri

  • Caprese salad: Named for the island and in the colours of the Italian flag, it’s mozzarella, tomato, and basil.
  • Ravioli Caprese: Pasta squares filled with caciotta cheese and parmesan flavoured with marjoram served with a tomato and basil sauce.
  • Pezzogna alla acqua pazza: Red seabream with a sauce made from cherry tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and parsley.
  • Sfogliatella frolla: A multi-layered pastry filled with semolina, sweetened ricotta, candied fruits and cinnamon.
  • Torta Caprese: This local cake is made from chocolate and almonds.

How to move around in Capri

Hydrofoils, ferries, and boats from Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi, and Positano serve the port with regular departures and arrivals every day. From the dock, Capri town can be reached by the funicular. The local bus network runs between Capri Town and Anacapri as well as Marina Grande and Marina Piccola. Other than the one main road, the town is pedestrianised so completely walkable.
