What time of year is best for travel?
If you are looking for the most pleasant weather in Japan, you should consider two seasons of the year: spring, from March to May, and autumn, from September to November. Spring is especially famous for the blooming of cherry blossoms, and you will enjoy temperatures ranging from 10 to 20°C. On the other hand, autumn offers an impressive display of colors in the tree leaves, with temperatures varying between 15 and 24°C.
As for festivities, Japan has a lot to offer. In addition to Hanami in spring, the Gion Matsuri in summer in Kyoto is another cultural gem that you should not miss. Keep in mind that during these celebrations, demand is high, which can cause flight and hotel prices to increase.
If you are looking for more affordable options, winter could be ideal for you, especially outside the ski season. It is the time when prices are usually lower, but make sure to bring appropriate clothing, as temperatures can be quite cold.
How far in advance should you make your reservations?
If you want to get good prices and availability in hotels in Japan, it is recommended to book at least 4 to 6 months in advance, especially if you plan to travel during the cherry blossom season or a major festival. These periods are very crowded and rates tend to rise.
A unique tip for Japan: look for hotels that offer packages with transportation passes included. Many hotels in cities like Tokyo or Kyoto offer these deals that can result in significant savings.
Also, try to avoid the Golden Week at the end of April and beginning of May. It is one of the most important holiday weeks in Japan and you will find higher prices and less availability in flights and hotels.
What should you see during your trip?
In Japan, with its rich cultural tapestry, a unique experience awaits you that blends the ultramodern with the ancestral. From the skyscrapers and neon lights of Tokyo to the serene temples and shrines of Kyoto, every corner invites you to explore and admire. It's true, you may be drawn to the iconic Mount Fuji or the hustle and bustle of Shibuya Crossing, but there are also other hidden treasures waiting to be discovered by you.
One of those places is the island of Naoshima, an oasis of contemporary art. Here, sculptures and installations by renowned artists blend with the stunning coastal landscape, creating an almost magical atmosphere. On the other hand, the Japanese Alps offer nature lovers opportunities for hiking with panoramic views that seem straight out of a fairy tale.
If you are a film and animation enthusiast, you must not miss the Ghibli Museum. This animation sanctuary immerses you deeply in its most iconic films. In Kyoto, in addition to the golden Kinkaku-ji Temple, the Bamboo Forest of Arashiyama offers a serene retreat, while the Fushimi Inari Shrine, with its thousands of red torii gates, becomes even more mystical during the early hours of the day or at nightfall. Japan, with its diversity and richness, promises unforgettable experiences at every moment.
